The steady and constant drums, with the dancing notes on the guitar makes Dancing in the Rain by Blu and Exile a song to cruise easily to. Blu, (who provides all the vocals on this hip hop duo’s album Below the Heavens) tells an incredibly honest, and introspective story about trying to make it as an up-and-coming artist. There’s something to be said about artists writing about their realities, and these lyrics are so refreshingly genuine that it makes this song stand out among others.

Exile creates the sound of a rainy day in this song off of Below The Heavens and Blu tells his story to it. The authentic descriptive details leads the listener through his own world while a heavy snare keeps the song on pace. One notable element from this song is the guitar sample that mimicks raindrops, it literally had me Dancing In The Rain. This song really portrays a masterpiece and is another sound exposure.

Earth, Wind & Fire is an American R&B group has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and is known as the seventh best-selling American music group of all time. This song, Star, appears on Earth, Wind & Fire’s album I Am, and has a catchy, upbeat feel that transcends any singular musical genre. With relatively simple lyrics to accompany, the message is simple; believe, have faith, and live your life with positivity.

You can’t go wrong with EWF and their irresistable, playful sound. The funk created by one of the guitarists keeps the pace while their notorious horn additions add flavor to another enjoyable song to remember. Yet, no EWF song can exist without Philip Bailey and his falsetto impact to their music. Star is overshadowed by one of their more popular singles, Shining Star, but it still deserves a sound exposure.

Don’t Cry is an arranged piece conatining pieces from I Can’t Stand (To See You Cry) by The Escorts. J Dilla creates an on-stage show for the listener in this one. The drums have been arranged to fit a live performance which changes in pace throughout the song. In the early beginnings of the song he creates a lively moment leading up to an opening for the act. His breakdown of drums make an accord with the chopped vocals that have been placed to simulate harmony. He purely made something out of nothing something different valiantly.

Dilla’s cropped, fragmented pace in Don’t Cry shows his ornate sampling style, but makes a listener feel a slight sense of urgency that doesn’t necessarily fit the slow motion, motown-esque style of The Escorts. However, with the crackling old-time feel of a good vinyl, and obligatory record skips, Dilla flexes his innovative artistic talents. The same talents that are apparent in his whole album, Donuts, which is put it in a different caliber of musical genius.
